Abstract:
New entrants have seen a successful start in the Indian automobile market in recent times. The likes of Kia Motors and MG Motor are prime examples of it. Following suit, a Chinese brand known for its SUVs is now planning to get into the Indian space and for the same, might be introducing its vehicles in the country in the upcoming Auto Expo 2020.
Great Wall Motors, the Chinese car maker based in Baoding, Hebel is set to introduce its brand Haval that has seen much success in the company’s home market. Great Wall Motors has already set up a company in the country as per sources and is looking for an apt location to setup a plant.
The sources mention that the brand will be bringing three of its SUV offerings to India during the Auto Expo 2020. The SUVs will namely be - Haval H4, H6 and H9. Out of the three, the brand will be focusing on launching the H4 in India by as soon as 2021 to compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta and MG Hector.

As for its specifications, the Haval H4 measures 4.4m in length, with a 2,660 mm wheelbase. Its most powerful unit is powered by a 170 hp, 1.5 turbo-petrol engine and comes with a dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The Haval H6, on the other hand, is a bigger model based on the same platform as the H4. It will stretch to a length of 4.6m and will have a wheelbase of 2,680mm. It will also be backed by more powerful 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines and will possibly come with a four-wheel-drive system. Expect to find all the bells and whistles on the SUV to take on its counterparts in the market! This can be judged from the fact that the H6 is the best selling SUV in China!

The largest of the three is the Haval H9 with a 4.8m length that will likely compete with Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner in India. With extreme off-roading capabilities, the H9 promises an impressive 206mm of ground clearance and a loaded off-roading kit.
It will be interesting to see Great Wall’s strategy in the Indian market as and when it decides to bring its products here. Since this is the highest competing segment in the country’s market, the response to H4 in 2021 will likely help the company decide for its other products too.
